Cabin construction 2007

My friend Steve Schadler had domed the clay and leveled off gravel for drainage, then I started building the floor on three treated timbers.

So there was not much there, and suddenly

there was a floor. Well, it wasn't quite that simple.  I borrowed a framing nail gun (Pneumatic) unfortunately I nailed myself, literally.  I was holding a 2 X 4 and nailing through the sill, when it double clutched and sent a second nail off target, through the sill and into my left index finger.  Not fun.  I was pretty sore for a few days, and I was glad I didn't have any gigs to play, I couldn't.

\Grace, Hannah and grandson Gavin were there to help.  Grace and Hannah were holding up the newly framed walls for the first time, I'm not sure what Gavin was doing. . .

So then we laid down the walls and covered it up for the week.

The next weekend we finished framing the walls and built rafters

a much more time consuming process than I had remembered.

It's starting to look like a cabin, notice the purple pickup, a new addition to the Rude Stables.  (Used 1987 Toyota 4wd)

Next the rafters went up.  This was the hardest part, as I was by myself that weekend.

This is the view out where the patio door will be.  This is the stock pond at the west end of our pasture.  Occasionally, moose come here to water.

OK, so I'm not going to show you every step in the process.  This is what it looked like after putting in the windows and doors.  Unfortunately, it hasn't progressed much since this point, as last weekend it was rainy, and this weekend I'm headed to a football game and hockey game at UND.  Man cannot live by construction alone, occasionally there must be sports. . .
